"It is not known for certain who built this
hipped-roof farmhouse around 1790, but it is
similar in both design and plan to four other hipped-roof houses constructed during the same period by Job Lane Howe, a Shoreham builder of note.  It is possible, however, that Elijah Wright, its owner, built the house himself, modeling it after those constructed by Job Howe. Elijah apparently
did carve his initials, E.W., into one of the closet doorjambs in the kitchen, which used to be the keeping room. Elijah Wright was a figure of some prominence in Shoreham; not only was he among those who firmly established a settlement there, he was also instrumental in the development of Shoreham's sheep-breeding pursuits, which provided substantial revenue for the community."  *
